Toba
Singer is a librarian with the San
Francisco Public Library. She graduated from New York Citys
High School of Performing Arts with a major in Drama, and apprenticed
with acclaimed director, Vinnette Carroll.
She studied ballet with Nina
Anderson, Françoise Martinet, Perry Brunson, E. Virginia
Williams, Kahz Zmuda, Shannon Mitchell, Augusta Moore, Richard Gibson,
Zory Karah, Elizabeth Gravelle and Svetlana Afanasieva. She studied
Modern Dance with Cora Cahan, Gertrude Shur, May ODonnell,
Judith Jamison and Donald McKayle, and Jazz with Phil Black.
Toba spent 30 years engaged in
political organizing as a revolutionary socialist. She has been
a guest columnist for the Charleston Gazette, Potrero View
and San Francisco Examiner and reviewed for Voice of Dance.
She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Robert
Moses Kin Dance Company.
