| NANCY DOW |
Associate, Studio Moderator |
Nancy Dow trained as a ballet dancer
in New York City. She attended Smith College and graduated with
Honors in Dance, after which she returned to NY to pursue a performing
career. Injuries interfered, but by then Nancy had discovered
that she loved teaching. She studied pedagogy with Don Farnworth
and taught in his school.
In a career that spans 30 years, Nancy
has developed innovative approaches to working with children,
directed ballet programs, trained teachers, taught master classes,
coached young dancers and choreographed more pieces than she
cares to count. Members of the Paul Taylor and Jose Limon dance
companies took her classes, and former students have danced with
New York City Ballet and San Francisco Ballet.
Nancy met her husband-to-be outside
the Metropolitan Opera House, waiting to buy ballet tickets.
Some time later, he proposed to her there, and they were married
right across the street from Lincoln Center. Now they have a
teen-aged son and live in New Jersey.
Recently Nancy learned to turn on a
computer. One of her first explorations of the Net was serendipitous
in that it landed her in criticaldance. She is honored to be
a Moderator here. |
