Jennifer Leake's resume
the short version
Jennifer Leake, born in Sydney, Australia,
began her dancing career at the Australian Ballet School, followed
by guest appearances with the Australian Ballet. In 1985, Jennifer
left her homeland for Germany, where she spent the next eight
years dancing classical and contemporary works by choreographers
such as Uwe Scholz (now in Leipzig) and Youri Vamos (currently
in Duesseldorf) in State Ballet Companies in Bonn and Hannover.
In 1994, Jennifer completed a degree
in Dance Teaching at the Cologne Conservatorium of Music/Ballet
Academy (Musikhochschule Koeln). After teaching students and
professionals in Germany and Australia, Jennifer completed a
Graduate Diploma in Choreography at the Victorian College of
the Arts/Melbourne University.
While still in Europe (1994), Jennifer
was a member of the team that hosted the first European Dance
in Education Conference, an event funded by the European Union.
From 1996, she continued in marketing/event management roles
for arts and corporate organizations in Sydney.
Eager to visit New York, the cultural
hub she had spent most of her dancing career "in awe"
of, Jennifer moved there in 1998. She has since devoted much
of her time to writing about dance and has published articles
in Ballet International/Aktuell Tanz (Berlin), the Village
Voice (New York City), the Dance Critics Association Newsletter
(Philadelphia), Dance Australia, Pointe, Dance
Spirit, Stagebill and other publications.
Jennifer is currently the Special Projects
Editor for Dance Australia magazine.
