Yes, Stuart, you're right. I stand most humbly corrected.

Off to light the candles on my Lord of the Prance shrine...

Flatley's modesty is further explored in this review by Anita Amirrezvani:

quote:
Slightly stale `Feet of Flames' still sizzles

ANITA AMIRREZVANI, San Jose Mercury News

``Welcome to the world's greatest dance show!''

That was the immodest opening to Michael Flatley's latest dance extravaganza, ``Feet of Flames,'' which played to about 10,000 enthusiastic fans Sunday night at San Jose's Compaq Center.

There are some students from CORK COUNTY who come into the library(where I work for now)to surf the internet-I mentioned Michael Flatly to one of them and the guy almost gagged!!! He cant stand him;he says some Irish folks feel the same way;;funny how a celeb isnt sometimes appreciated in their own homeland;sorta the way Jerry Lewis isnt fully appreciated here, but is overseas.
Anyway the guy says MF has a place in Cork;I know he originally from Chicago but I guess raised in IRELAND.

I always though that the Irish had excellent taste in the Arts and Culture. So thanks Angela for a confirmation of this point.

Michael Flatley returns with his 'Feet of Flames'

IF his math is right, Michael Flatley should be invisible by the time his 20-city Feet of Flames tour smokes up Compaq Center on Friday.

No, he hasn't been charred while tapping through the inferno of his latest dance extravaganza.

From the Los Angeles Times:

DANCE REVIEW
Flash and Spectacle Aplenty From Flatley

By JENNIFER FISHER, SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

quote:
Evidently, you either "get" Michael Flatley and his world of good-versus-evil Irish hybrid spectacle dancing or you don't. Here's what happens when you do: He looks like he's coming right at you, just you--and that he likes you--when he strides to the edge of the stage and drops to his knees, dressed in glitter-studded, late-Elvis finery (if Elvis had succumbed to a bare midriff and very high silver heels on his boots).

Rick Loughran, The Province

Michael Higgins - National Post, 30/07/01:

quote:
He has been accused of having a huge ego but says: "I've said this before and I'll say it again. People mistake ego for self-confidence. I would say that you need to have an enormous amount of self-confidence to face 10,000 people on your own every night. That's not an easy thing to do. And if you're not confident at your job, you could never do that. You could just never do that. The more confidence you have, the more willing you are to walk on the edge and be out there in front of them"

The view from Ireland:

Flatley hangs up his dancing shoes

Joe Humphreys, Irish Times

The flamboyant former Riverdance star, Michael Flatley, has announced the end of his dancing career. The 43 year-old American-born dancer has said his performance last night in Dallas, Texas, marking the end of his Feet of Flames world tour, would be his last in public.

Truthfully, I will miss him. I will have to find someone else on whom to place all of my contempt. I like to find one person for that, because it leaves my mind open to all other things. I'm open for suggestions.

I have the video of Riverdance, and it's lovely, but I think Mr. Flatley just got too big for his boots, so I won't miss him.

www.geocities.com/SoHo/7022/mikeart.htm

Feast your eyes on these art-inspired pics of the man.

My personal favourite is The Awakening of Narcissus, after JW Waterhouse, but then I'm a Pre-Raphaelite fan.
If I knew how to put it up here I would.
The one of our leather-trousered hero with Elvis is also a gem.

LMCtech, I have a suggestion for a new hate target for you - Joachim Cortez. In fact he was probably never as good a dancer as Flatley was and his pop-Flamenco is alesssuccessful idea than the Riverdance Irish ensemble style, which does have a lot of power. Flamenco in Armani just looks silly.

Red Shoes - I enjoyed that site - gave me a good laugh. I would get it and put it up here but it might be covered by copyright laws....so I hesitate.

But, thanks for the chuckle.

LMCtech, I believe our dear Stuart is away again. A couple weeks ago it was to some castle in Scotland; this time he's off to a regatta. But here's what I dug up right here on C-D, using the search feature (in the upper left corner of the page):

It will be interesting to see how Mr. Flately is received by this somewhat erudite group. Will he emerge victorious, or will they make mincemeat of him?
